ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: MYTH AND REALITIES

ERICH PREM IN CONVERSATION WITH PETER KNEES
SONNTAG, 29.09.2024 / 14h00

AKADEMIE DER BILDENDEN KÜNSTE WIEN, AULA

There is a large public debate about AI and the risks involved as it develops. However, ERICH PREM claims that it is important to distinguish the real risks from the hype and the myths. These myths are often propagated by the AI firms themselves. One of them is the unfounded idea that something like current technology could create “conscious AI.” Another is the notion that we are on the brink of creating artificial general intelligence (AGI). Instead of these sci-fi ideas, Prem suggests in conversation with PETER KNEES that we should rather be focusing on the real, practical risks of current AI.

ERICH PREM is a computer scientist, AI expert, and philosopher. For more than two decades he worked in international research and innovation strategy and RTDI policy. His research interests include artificial intelligence, embodied AI, research politics, innovation research, AI ethics, and epistemology. Currently he works on ethical and epistemological questions of AI.
